■ Working principle:

A/O is the abbreviation of Anoxic/Oxic. Its advantage is that it not only degrades organic pollutants, but also has certain nitrogen and phosphorus removal functions. It uses anaerobic hydrolysis technology as the pretreatment of activated sludge, so A/O method is an improved activated sludge method.

The A/O process connects the front anoxic section and the rear aerobic section in series, and the DO of the A section is not more than 0.2mg/L, and the DO of the O section is 2 ~ 4 mg/L.. In anoxic stage, heterotrophic bacteria hydrolyze suspended pollutants such as starch, fiber, carbohydrate and soluble organic matters in sewage into organic acids, so that macromolecular organic matters are decomposed into micromolecule organic matters, and insoluble organic matters are converted into soluble organic matters. When these products after anoxic hydrolysis enter an aerobic tank for aerobic treatment, the biodegradability of sewage is improved and the oxygen efficiency is improved.

In the anoxic stage, heterotrophic bacteria ammoniate pollutants such as protein and fat (N in organic chain or amino in amino acid) to free ammonia (NH3, NH4+). Under the condition of sufficient oxygen supply, the nitrification of autotrophic bacteria oxidizes NH3-N (NH4+) to NO3-, return to Pool A through reflux control. Under anoxic condition, the denitrification of heterotrophic bacteria will reduce NO3- to molecular nitrogen (N2), complete the ecological circulation of C, N and O, and realize the harmless treatment of sewage.
